by Marianne Wi

The Ecumenical Prize was today awarded to Paolo Sorrentino at Cannes, it is a special prize approved by SIGNIS (World Catholic Association for Communication) together with INTERFILM (International Interchurch Organisation) a price most Directors are not particular overjoyed to receive and one Lars von Trier certainly joked himself out of this year, you can take freedom of speach too far at Cannes. Paolo Sorrentino, This Must Be The Place has knocked Cannes for Six

by Marianne Wi

Paolo Sorrentino’s “This Must Be The Place” was last night shown at Cannes to an entuastic audience, who reacted by giving the Director a standing ovation of 10 minutes, I am sensing a trend here…… 10 minutes being the operative word and norm. Sorrentino then had an additional 10 minutes when he arrived “embarrassed” according to the Italian papers, at the Grand Theatre Lumiere. I for one cannot wait to see this film with Sean Penn, who is one of my least favorite American actors, however the trailer looks awesome and I like the notion that Penn looks worn-out and haggard, do I see the Italian entry for next years Oscars? No it was shot in English and has too much foreign funding. This Must Be The Place was not released anywhere prior to the Festival and as far as I can workout, it will be late autumn before the rest of us less fortunate cinefiles get a look in. No release date for the USA, however as it has been partly funded by them it will be shown there I would imagine sooner rather than later. In Italy we must wait until the 14th October 2011 and the lucky Swedes will have it by the 11th November 2011. Cannot wait for the time when you go online  ” pay as you watch” a film as and when you feel like it, surely not that many years away, we have the technology now we just need the humph.

This must be the Place more information.

This must be the place , Questo deve essere il posto

by Marianne Wi

”This must be the place”, “Questo deve essere il posto” directed by Paolo Sorrentino will be in competition at this years Cannes Film Festival, running from the 11th May until the 22 of May 2011, it is not due for release in Italy before October 2011 grrr grrrr.

Director : Paolo Sorrentino’s fame goes before him, he is recognised worldwide, many of his films have been distributed independently abroad as well as appearing at many of the biggest International Film Festivals. His greatest success was without doubt Il Divo 2008 however L’amico di familia, The Family Friend 2006 –  Le conseguenze dell’amore, The Consequences of Love 2001 –  and L’uomo in piu, One Man Up 2001 also did very well on the International market. I understand that Sean Penn met up with Paolo Sorrentino during the Cannes Film Festival in 2008, where he impressed the director so much that he returned to Italy and asked David Bryne to sort out a screenplay and  there you have it a film was born.

Cast : Sean Penn, Eve Hewson. Frances MaDormand, Judd Hirsch, Heinz Lieven, Kerry Conden, Olwen Fouere, Simon Delaney, Hoyce Van Pattern, Liron Levo

Synobsis : In short the film is about a bored retired rock star living in Ireland, who has not had contact with his father for over 30 years and therefore decides to hit on New York hoping for a reconciliation, before the father passes away, Cheyenne (Sean Penn) arrives too late. It is only after the father death that Cheyenne fully understands his fathers humiliation and horrendous treatment during his stay in Auschwitz, metered out by SS Officer Aloise Lange an unpleasent fellow, who was the fathers tormentor during the 2nd world war. Cheyenne is taken on a long a painful journey across the USA together with an equally painful journey of self discovery. Cheyenne has when he reaches his goal a big decision to make, will he be man enough ?

Bertrand Bonello – L’Apollonide Souvenirs de la maison close , House of Tolerance

May the best man win, as long has he was born in Italy.

Alessandro Preziosi,Vittoria Puccini… accidenti Stefano Accorsi ?

by Marianne Wi

Alessandro Preziosi,Vittoria Puccini it is all over, previous blog.

The Italian press it up in arms again about the possible romance between Vittoria Puccini and Stefano Accorsi ?

What I hear you ask “is she already over Adriano Giannini” ? I am online booking my next flight to Rome, Giannini is my sort of man ( looks are not everything and beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, sure but still…….you can dream right ?)

According to those in the know, Accorsi and Puccini were caught on her balcony, in a compromising position. Now, as you all know the Italians are a nation of snoggers or peckkers, they have a need to kiss when encountering friends whatever their  age or sex , it is very much a “must” do, they will move in on you once they get close enough then WHAM BANG ! Being caught in a compromising position is not really that difficult unless they were naked having sex and I stress no one has claim that was the case , phew.

La vita facile, An easy Life directed by Lucio Pellegrini, staring both actors is out in the cinemas here in Italy this week, so this affair would come in very handy if you needed a bit of publicity; plus was the little madam not dating Adriano Giannini too , no wonder Preziosi is having rage issues.

I am new to the Italian press and paparazzi etiquette , however having just had to read page after page about our young stud Riccardo Scamarcio and his pretend affair with Deniz Ozdogan together with the additional headlines created when Valeria Galino met  Sean Penn all just staged before Riccardo went on stage in Rome and the film Manuale d’amore 3, Manual of Love 3 was released, more importantly there are no photos , not even bad grainy ones, it is beginning to sound a wee bit like a stunt to me, do you feel it too ?

Stefano Accorsi is in a long-term relationship with the lovely French model Laetitia Casta with whom he has 2 children. I am seriously hoping this is a publicity stunt by the producers or there will be hell to pay. Laetitia Casta looks like a lady that could wake the dead if she put her mind to it .

23rd May 2011 Vittoria Puccini and Cladio Santamaria loved up in Lisabon

Diva E Donne is at it again….. Riccardo Scamarcio, Valeria Galino, Sean Penn and Deniz Ozdogan, what is going on?

by Marianne Wi

Diva E Donne is at it again….. Riccardo Scamarcio, Valeria Galino, Sean Penn and Deniz Ozdogan, what is going on?

Nothing is going on, that’s what!

Nothing, I am putting my seize 38 down and stopping this silly publicity stunt. At least try to pretend to have these dates in secret will you and not right in front of the Paparazzi. The tickets for Romeo and Juliette are selling well so give it a rest.

Last week Riccardo Scamarcio and Deniz Ozdogan were seen half smooching in front of a photographer, just before the opening night of Romeo  &  Juliette  at the Teatro Eliseo in Rome. No, not actually kissing that would have rubbed Valeria Galino up the wrong way. On the 14th of February at the first night,RS and VG were seen out dinning with friends , no sign of any discord at all.

Valeria Galino went out with Sean Penn two nights ago, big deal they have known each other for years  actually since he directed her in The Indian Runner back in 1991, they were seen having dinner with Paolo Sorrentino the evening of the “Romantic “ strol,  I always thought 3 was a crowd and Riccardo Scamarcio actually joint them later that evening too.

The photo of RS and DO after kissing on stage, what pray tell is that all about? Would Diva & Donne have Romeo and Juliette re-written to fit this publicity stunt, may Shakespeare thunder in his Round House?

Riccardo Scamarcio and Valeria Galino were papped outside the Teatro Eliseo, they spoke briefly before he drove off pensively into the night, while she took a Taxi…ahhh I am wondering if she might be off to see Michele Placido, I think he is doing something in Rome with a Taxi or was he being interview by Taxidrivers.it  (I will get back to you on that story, unless D&D gets the photos out first.)

As I blogged on the 17th December 2010 , Valeria is writing her first screen play , it will feature RS and show him in a different light no less , further more I see no problems romantically in the bottom of my coffee cup ,crystal ball or tealeafs………Now tell me about a new Dramatic, Thriller will you !
