The Guetteur, Il cecchino, The Sniper director Michele Placido, its a rap.

by Marianne Wi

Michele Placido has for the past four weeks been shooting his new venture Le Guetteur, Il cecchino, The Sniper in the streets of Paris, he has  directed the final scenes in the heart of the French capital and is properly looking forward to some good pasta aldente and a glass of chilled white.  The Sniper is a French film starring Daniel Auteuil,  who is playing head of police in hot pursuit of Mathieu Kossovitz our sniper who foiled the arrest of a group of bank robbers by killing numerous Police Officers. The Sniper will have a number of Italian Actors too, Raoul Bova was originally signed up raving about his great joy of being able to work with one of Italy’s greatest directors ……. only having to pull out due to other work commitments, he is currently shooting Ultimo 4, I saw Ultimo 1 whatever happened to 2 and 3 ? anyway a favorite Italian eye candy of mine without a big ego is Luca Argentero has taken over the role. This film sounds very much like a police thriller, yet Placido has pronounced it a ”noir” the latest trend among Italian film makers. Placido describes this film as and I quote “It’s a film about Western decadence of the age we live in and on the eternal struggle between good and evil.” I think we can look forward to that sometime early spring 2012 unless they decide to keep in under wraps untill Cannes.

Cast : Daniel Auteuil, Mathieu Kassovitz, Violante Placido, Luca Argentero, Arly Jover, Oliver Gourmet, Francis Renaud and Nicolas Briançon.

Posti In Piedi In Paradiso, Standing Room In Paradise

by Marianne Wi

So much is going on in the streets of Rome at the moment that Carlo Verdone has taken to the Studios of Cinecittà, where he has started shooting his new film “Posti In Piedi In Paradiso”, “Standing Room In Paradise” (possible English Title) it is a comedy as always when Verdone gets involved, it will be shot over the next 10 weeks in Rome, Cinecittà Studios and Paris. Posti In Piedi In Paradiso has one of my favorite Italian actors starring in it namely Pierfrancesco Favino always a delight to watch, Marco Gialli you might remember him from La Bellezza del somaro, Love and Slaps directed by Sergio Castellitto, he has great comic timing as has the actress Micaela Ramazzotti, a great Italian actress, starring too will be Verdone himself who apart from directing also co-wrote the screenplay, will be a good payday for some when this film is released in 2012.  Other cast members have been announced, they are Diane Fleri, Nicoletta Romanoff, Valentina D’Agostino, Nadir Caselli, Maria Luisa De Cresceno and Giulia Greco. The film revolves around three separated men and their economic and emotional instability, they decide to share a flat to save money and support each other through thick and thin…….. I am laughing already.

Annie Girardot has died

by Marianne Wi

Annie Girardot died yesterday in Paris aged 79 of Alzheimer. I know she is not Italian, I am making an exception for this great lady, who starred in many Italian films. Annie Girardot was easily recognised by her gravel-voice which got deeper as time went by, she acted in 160 films between 1955 and 2001.

I loved her in Rocco and his brothers Directed by Luchino Visconti,  in which she stared with Alain Delon in 1961. Her last film won her a  Cesar the French equivalent of the Hollywood Oscar for best supporting Actress in” The Piano Teacher” in 2001. Annie Girardot roles were often based on very strong women earning her a large female following, she wrote her autobiography while in the early stages of Alzheimer in honour of her daughter , she is also survived by her husband Renato Salvatori  an Italian actor.

Also today in Hollywood another death that of Jane Russell 89, she stared in many movies back in the 40s and 50s and is properly best known for her role in “Gentlemen prefer Blondes” that also stared Marilyn Monroe. Jane Russell was a pin-up of her day and the first to make the push-up bra something a woman could be proud of, who can forget the Playtex bras for TV ads with the slogan Cross Your Heart, ….well just before we all decided to burn them that is .
