Best film of 2011, looking at the First Qtr.

by Marianne Wi

Best film of 2011 ? early days so lets look at the first quarter, who are the movers and shakers up among the top 3 on the Festival circuit and which Italian Film has conquered  the Box Office.

Top Dog on the Festival and Award circuit:

3rd place  Malavoglia, The House of the Medlar Tree directed by Pasquale Scimeca shown at 26 festivals, winning 2 awards.

2nd place Febbre da Fieno, Hayfever  directed by Laura Luchetti with 20 Festivals and 4 awards.

1st place Into Paradiso directed by Paola Livia Randi with 20 festivals and 5 awards

Not really a clear winner so far as films like  “In the Market” directed by Lorenzo Lombardi has only been seen at 9 festivals however it has already won 6 awards as has  “Un giorno della vita, A Day in the Life” directed by Giuseppe Papasso shown only at 2 festivals yet right up there with 6 awards.

Top of the Box Office Italian only :

3rd place Femmine contro maschi, Women against Men directed by Fausto Brizzi (I did not review it, left at the interval, it was that irritating)

2nd place Immaturi, The Juveniles directed by Paolo Genovese

1st place Qualunquemente, Whatsoeverly directed by Giulio Manfredonia

I think we have a number of good films coming out so this will surely change by the time we hit the 2nd quarter.
